Bhutan is a tiny and remote kingdom nestling in the Himalayas between its powerful neighbours, India and China .
Almost completely cut off for centuries, it has tried to let in some aspects of the outside world while fiercely guarding its ancient traditions.
The Bhutanese name for Bhutan, Druk Yul, means “Land of the Thunder Dragon” and it only began to open up to outsiders in the 1970s.
Bhutan is a beautiful and peaceful country. The surrounding mountains coupled with the wide array of vegetation and wildlife is a beautiful sight that tells you just how magical it is!
Bhutan is a very unique vacation travel destination , virgin and not yet commercialized and the visitors the experience upforgettable . The country cherishes a “high value low volume” tourism policy for the preservation of the country’s unique heritage and culture in a fast changing world.
This program short and covers comprehensively three most importantly town in western Bhutan –Punakha , Thimphu and Paro. These towns contribute the major sightseeing attractions in the country. Punakha the ancient capital of Bhutan best known for its most beautiful17th centure Dzong( fortess) “Punakha Dhong . In the surrounding Punakha Valley, temples include the fertility-focused Chimi Lhakhang and the hilltop Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which has river and mountain views.
Brief Itinerary :
Day 1: Arrival in Paro & drive to Drive to Punakha (125 Kms , 3.5
- hr)
Day 2: Punakha to Thimpu Drive ( 71 Kms /2.5 hrs
Day 3: Thimpu to Paro ( 54 kms /1 hr drive ) and Excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest )
Day 4 : Departure !
Detailed Itinerary:
After comleting the brief immigration formalities you will be driven Punakha and wangdue . Enroute visit Tachog Lhakhang the 14 th Century temple across the Pa Chu river . Later continue driving to Dochula Pass( 3140 m) and enjoy the serene atmoshphere and mountain view . Visit the 108 chortens. Later Lunch and continue driving to Punakha the ancient capital of Bhutan from 1637 to 1955 . On the visit Devine Madman’s Monastery( Chimmi Lakhang ) a popular fertility temple . Today only we will visit famous punakha Dzong located on the confluence of Po Chu and Mo Chu rivers ( male and female rivers ) . This Dzong was built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngwawang Namgyal which the best specimen of Bhutanese craftmanship and woodwork . In the evening ( time permiting ) visit the Nunnery and ejoy the great view of the surroundings. Overnight at Punakha .
Morning after breakast we drive Thimpu enroute to DochulaPass . On arrival in Thimpu we will visit Schoool of traditional painting school of arts and crafts. We will visit National textile mueseum where bhutan’s weaving , textiles , intricate designs displayed and kept alive for the future generations. Next we will visit Postal mueseum to learn on the postal history of Bhutan and here you can find your personalized stamps. Next we will visit farmers market( thu- sun) and best place to see Bhutan’s organic Farm products . This provides good opportunity to interact with the local farmers . we will continue with the visit to Takin Reserve a home to gigantic Tekin – a kind of goat –antelope the national animal of Bhutan . Later in the afternoon we will visit The buddha point ( Kuenselphordang) where you can see the giant buddha statue overlooking the Thimpu valley . Then we visit National memorial chorten – a memorial built in the memory of 3rd king of Bhutan Jigme Dorji . We will continue our day visiting Tashichhoe Dzong , the fortess of the glorious religion which was built in 1641. This houses the royal secretariat and throne room of the king. Time permiting visit Craft Bazaar to see the selling bhutanese arts and crafts from across Bhutan and this is probably the right place for buing handicrafts. Overnight at the hotel .
After breakfast we drive to Paro and on arrival in Paro we drive to North of Paro valley and hike to Taktasang Monastery( Tiger’s Nest ) the total of 3 hrs walk round trip. It is said Guru Rimoche ( Padma Sambhav) flew to this place on the tiger’s back for the spread of Buddhism and its preservation . On the way back Visit Kichu Lhskang, one of 108 temples built in 7th century the Tibetan King Tsongten Gampo. These temples were built all across himalayas to drive the evils away. Time permiting we visit hisotric Drugyaal Dzong a fortress and Buddhist monastery, now in ruins, located in the upper part of the Paro valley. Evening free and overnight at the hotel
Transfer to the airport in time to connect your international flight Kathmandu or onward destination. Warm farewell.
