Tibet, is situated on the northern side of the Himalayas, is an autonomous region of China. It’s nicknamed the “Roof of the World” for its towering peaks. It shares Mt. Everest with Nepal. Its capital, Lhasa, is site of hilltop Potala Palace, and Jokhang Temple,Tibet’s spiritual heart, revered for its golden statue of the young Buddha

This tour will lead through the ancient city of Lhasa to the Everest base camp and ultimately to surface route to Kathmandu. The Potala Palace dominates the skyline with its powerful and ancient architecture. The numerous temples and monasteries surrounding the city, such as the Jokhang and Drepung, allow travelers to experience Tibetan Buddhism first hand.
This trip offers the picturesque views, amazing himalayas, deep inside into the tibetan culture, history , buddhism and monasteries . This program covers the entire historical landmarks like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple , Barkhor Street, Drepung monastery, sera monastery ,Gyngtse Kumbum monastery and Shigatse Tashi Lunpho monastery . Scenery of Yamdrok Tso , Karo Glaciers and views of Mt Everest are some of the highlights .
Brief Itinerary :
Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa
Day 2 : Full day sightseeing of Lhasa
Day 3 : Fullday sightseeing of Lhasa
Day 4: Lhasa to Gyangtse and drive to Shigatse
Day 5 : Shigatse to EBC
Day 6 : EBC to Shigatse
Day 7: Shigatse to Lhasa
Day 8: Lhasa – Namtso – Lhasa
Day 9: Lhasa Departure
Detailed Itinerary:
Arrival and tranfer to the centrally located hotel in Lhasa . Rest of the day free to relax /acclimatization or explore the surroundings.
Today after breakfast you will viist the Potala Palace, the landmark of Lhasa and most impressive Eastern architecture.
You will continue your tour visiting Jokhang Temple , the most reverred tibetan temple and inside there is the statue of Life size ShakyaMuni budha . Later you visit famous Barkor Street which very crowded market place and circles Jokhang Temple. Probably the best place to buy traditional Tibetan goods, religious items and handicrafts.
After breakfast, you will visit Norbulingka , the former summer palace of Dalai Lama. Later you will drive to Drepung Monastery meaning prosperity . In the ancient time this monastery once housed more than 10,000 monks.
In the afternoon, you will be taken to Sera Monastery which is famous monks debating.
Morning drive about 8 hours to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. It is long day but equally beautiful . Today you will reach Yamdrok Lake (altitude: 4,400m) the largest freshwater lake which 675 square meters. You will also see Karola Glacier (altitude: 5,045m) towering uphill on the right side of the road.
Later you will reach Gyantse the historical city of Tibet and visit Pelkhor choide Monastery (altitude: 4,040m) which serves as the meliting pot of three important sects of Tibetan Buddhism - Sakyapa, Zhalupa and Gelukpa. Later you will visit Kumbum Stupa , which is 35 meters high and has 76 small chapels with hundreds ancient murals .
You will continue driving to Shigatse (3,800m). On arrival rest and free to explore the surroundings.
Morning after breakfast you will drive 7 hrs to EBC ( Everest base camp ) . Long but along the route you will have wonderful mountain views as Makalu, Lhotse, Gyachung and Cho Oyu. You will arrive Rongbuk Monastery (altitude: 4,980m), and enjoy the sight of Mt Everest . Rest of the visit the Rongbuk monastery and explore the surroundings. Overnight at the Rongbuk Guest house .
Early morning sunrise views over the Himalayas.Drive few kilometres for the perfect views of Mt Everest , the world’s highest mountain . Enjoy the vies form Rongubk monastery .
Once you are done with sunrise views over the mt Everest your all set to return to Shigatse for your return journey to Lhasa . On arrival in Shigatse free for rest .
Morning after breakfast you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery , the official seat of Panchen Lama . This is the largest GELUG monastery in Tibet which has housed the big statue of well ornamented Future buddha /
Then drive back to Lhasa – 5hrs (5 hours) along the Yaluzangbu River. During the drive enjoy sights , landscape , architeture, tibetan living style ,culture, flora and fauna . Overnight in Lhasa .
Today after breakfast you will explore holy lake Namtso which is about 5 hours drive from Lhasa .
Namtso Lake is the highest saltwater lake in the world with an altitude of 4718 meters. It is abslolutely beautiful mountains in the background, the crystal-clear water .For tibetan it is considered sacred lake for pilgrimage . At the end you will drive back to Lhasa .
Transfer to the airport in time to connect your flight to kathamdnu or onward destination.
