Tibet, on the lofty Tibetan Plateau on the northern side of the Himalayas, is an autonomous region of China. It’s nicknamed the “Roof of the World” for its towering peaks. It shares Mt. Everest with Nepal. Its capital, Lhasa, is site of hilltop Potala Palace, and Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s spiritual heart, revered for its golden statue of the young Buddha
You will be taken through the ancient city of Lhasa which is filled with unparalleled history, culture,heritage and beauty. The Potala Palace dominates the skyline with its powerful and ancient eastern architecture. A visit to the ancient monasteries is an experience of a lifetime and incredible opportunity to learn Buddhism.
This normal tour includes the tours of Lhasa , Gyangtse and Shigatse. You will cross Tsangbo Bridge and drive up to Kamba La ( 15,700ft), which offers amazing views of the Himalayas as well as Yamdrok Tso – the turquoise green water lake several hundred feet below. Follow the bank of Yamdrok Tso for more than 40 miles before and you will reach Nangkartse, a small town and have a chance to take a side trip to Samding Monastery of Bodong sect.
The road again climbs over Karo La (16,500 ft) and heads towards Gyantse. Visit Kumbum Stupa – the landmark of Gyantse and adjoining Pelkor Chode Monastery. We could also walk up to the Dzong, overlooking the Gyatnse town. En route, time permitting, you may visit the prominent Shalu Monastery which is an fusion of Tibetan, Nepali and Chinese architecture. Visit Tashilunbo Monastery – the principal seat of Panchen Lama is one of the highlights of this trip. From Shigatse, return to Lhasa via Yarlungdzangbo River. You may also visit Yungrungling monastery of Bon religion .
Day 01: Flight to Lhasa (11800ft) the capital city of Tibet.
Day 02-03: In Lhasa.
Day 04: Drive to Gyantse via Yamdrok Tso.
Day 05: To Shigatse.
Day 06: Return to Lhasa via northern route , following the Yarlungdzangbo River and visiting Yundrungling Monastery in Tradruk.
Day 07: Departure.
Detailed Itinerary :
On arrival warm welcome and transfer to your centrally located hotel in Lhasa . Rest of the day free to explore the surroundings and relax at the hotel for acclimatization .
Today we will visit Jokhang Temple ,the most revered shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. You can experience shopping in the most crowded market place in Lhasa . In the afternoon we will visit Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century temple with the golden roof which is the home to several hundred monks . Monks debating in the monasteries is very interesting here .
Today you will visit great Potala Palace. This palace is Lhasa's cardinal landmark and is a wonder of Eastern architecture. Later you will visit Drepung Monastery, once the world's largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks. This monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Overnight at the hotel.
You will go over two high passes, Kamba La (15,700 ft) and Karo La (16,500ft). En route sightseeing of Drolma Lakhang Monastery and Samding Monastery on the shores of Yamdrok Tso Lake.
You will Visit the highlights of Gyantse,including Pelkor Chode Monastery and Kumbum Stupa, then in the afternoon drive to Shigatse - the second largest city of Tibet after Lhasa. After refreshments, visit Tashilunbo Monastery - the principal seat of Panchen Lama.
Today you will return to Lhasa via Northern route ( New Road) , following the Yarlungdzangbo River and visiting Yundrungling Monastery in Tradruk.
Transfer to Gongar airport in time to connect our international flight to Kathmandu or onward journey .
