Tibet, on the lofty Tibetan Plateau on the northern side of the Himalayas, is an autonomous region of China. It’s nicknamed the “Roof of the World” for its towering peaks. It shares Mt. Everest with Nepal. Its capital, Lhasa, is site of hilltop Potala Palace, and Jokhang Temple, Tibet’s spiritual heart, revered for its golden statue of the young Buddha
Lay awestruck at the mesmerizing landscapes and the far spread wildlife all canopied with a spectacular view of the majestic Mt. Everest.
This tour will lead through the ancient city of Lhasa to the Everest base camp and ultimately to surface route to Kathmandu. The Potala Palace dominates the skyline with its powerful and ancient architecture. The numerous temples and monasteries surrounding the city, such as the Jokhang and Drepung, allow travelers to experience Tibetan Buddhism first hand.
This trip offers the picturesque views, amazing himalayas, deep inside into the tibetan culture, history , buddhism and monasteries .Excursion to Everest base camp is the highlight of this trip and you will experience the bumpy, windy and adventurous road from Kyarung to Kathmandu spending roughly 10 hrs on the road .
Day 1 : arrival in Lhasa
Day 2 : Full day Lhasa Tours covering Potala palace , Jokhang temple & Barkhor street
Day 3 : Full day Lhasa tours covering drepung monastery and Sera monastery .
Day 4 : Lhasa (3650m) to Shigatse(3900m) via Gyantse
Day 5 : Shigatse(3900m) to EBC (5200m) via Tingri
Day 6 : EBC to Gyirong Border 370km
Day 7 : Kyarung to Kathmandu
On arrival in Lhasa transfer to your centrally located hotel in Lhasa . Rest of the day free for acclimatization and explore the local surroundings . Overnight at Lhasa
After breakfast you visit the Potala Palace, the landmark of Lhasa . It has been a palace since around the sixth century and was once home to the Dalai Lama. Later you visit Jolkhang Temple, the oldest and most sacred temple in Lhasa and visit around the Barkhor Bazaar the most crowded and oldest market place in Tibet .
Today in the morning after breakfast we visit to the Drepung Monastery, the world's largest monastery, at once it housed over 10,000 monk. It is one of three three Gelug monasteries in Tibet . The other two are Ganden Monastery and Sera Monastery.
Later you visit Sera Monastery, Tibet’s 2nd largest monastery and monks debate is very interesting to watch here . Overnight at Lhasa .
Today you will leave Lhasa and drive about 6.5 hours to Gyantse. You will see holy Yamdrok Lake, the largest fresh lake in the northern of the Himalaya Mountains, which spreads roughly 675 square meters. You will see the Karola Glacier along the side of the road.
Arrive Gyantse & visit the Pelkor Chode Monastery . The monks and tradition of three important sects of Tibetan Buddhism - Sakyapa, Zhalupa and Gelukpa, peacefully coexist in this monastery. Also Gyantse Kumbum and enjoy the distant view of Gyangtse Fortress.
Later, you arrive in Shigatse, which is the second largest city in Tibet. Overnight in Shigatse. Time permiting explore the surroundins and village .
Morning, you visit Tashilhunpo monastery the seat of Panchen Lama. It is the largest monastery of Gelug sect in Shigatse .Here you will see a giant statue of Future Buddha with pearls, turquoises, corals and ambers.
To drive further here you will have to get Alien’s travel permit, and then drive to Lhatse.
Later you will pass Tsola Pass(4600M), and Gyatsola Pass(5248M). While driving you enjoy the panorama of the Himalayas and once we drive closer to everest base camp there will be the beautiful view of Mt Everest and sunset over it . Overnight at Rongbuk monastery guest house.
Morning, enjoy the sunrise over Mt Everest later we visit the Rongbuk Monstery - the the monastery and later, we will visit the Everest Base Camp.
Later , we continue driving from EBC to Kyirong border enroute enjoying the view of Mt. Shishapangma and the Pekutso Lake. We will arrive in Kyirong in late afternoon.Overnight in Kyirong.
After breakfast we drive to the Nepal Tibet boarder . We will complete the immigration formalities and walk across the bridge .
